Yellow Emperor said: “I hope to know the disease conditions caused by the six hollow organs.” Qibo said: “When the face is hot, it shows the Foot Yangming Channel is affected; when the stagnated blood spots appear on the thenar eminence of hand, it shows the Hand Yangming Channel is affected; when the Chongyang pulse appears to be firm and quite hidden on the dorsum of foot, it also shows the Foot Yangming Channel is affected. These are the methods for examining the channel of stomach energy.”
　　“When the large intestine is affected, there will be acute pain in the abdomen with borborygmus now and then, if the cold-evil is contracted again in winter, diarrhea will occur, the patient will have pain by the navel and will not be able to stand long during the pain. As the intestine is close related with the stomach, it can be treated by pricking the Shangjuxu point of the stomach channel.”
　　“In the stomach disease, the patient will feel distention of the stomach and has pain of the gastric cavity by the position of heart which is propping the hypochondria. As the passage from the pharynx to the chest is obstructed, the patient can hardly take food and drink. It can be treated by pricking the Zusnali point (ST. 36).”
　　In the disease of small intestine, there will be fullness and distention in the stomach and the scrotum is painful due to the drawing of the loins and back. The patient is often distressed, felling hot and cold in front of the ears, feeling hot above the brows and the location between the small finger and the ring finger. When the pulse condition is asthenic and bogging down, it is the syndrome of the affection of the small intestine which can be treated by pricking the Xiajuxu point.
　　“In the disease of the triple warmer, there will be distention and fullness in the abdomen, and the lower abdomen is rather firm due to distention. The patient will have dysuria and will feel very uncomfortable. When the fluid retains in the skin, it becomes edema, when it accumulates in the abdomen, it causes distention. The disease of the triple warmer can also appear on the large collateral on the outer flank of the Foot Taiyang Channel, this large collateral is situated between the Taiyang Channel and the Shaoyang Channel. When the triple warmer is affected, the large collateral will be red. It can be treated by pricking the Weizhong point.”
　　“In the disease of bladder, the lower abdomen is swelling and painful. When the site of pain is pressed by hand, the patient will like to pass urine but can hardly begin the ruination, and he is also hot on the shoulder. If the patient has a bogging pulse with hotness in foot, hotness in the outer flank of the small finger, tibia and behind the ankle, it can be treated by pricking the Weizhong point.”
　　“In the disease of gallbladder, the patient often sighs, has bitter taste in the mouth, vomits clear water, has palpitation as if someone is going to arrest him, and it seems something is obstructing the throat which causes frequent cough and spitting saliva. In this case, the circulating route of the Foot Shaoyang Channel should be inspected, besides, it should also find out which collateral is bogging to which can be treated with moxibustion; if the syndrome of alternating episodes of chills and fever appears, the Yanglingquan point should be pricked.”
　　Yellow Emperor asked: “Is there any rule in pricking the points stated above?” Qibo answered: “When pricking these points, the acupoints connecting the energy must be hit, and the muscle or the joint must not be hit. When the acupoints connecting the energy is hit, the needle will promote the circulation of energy under the needle hole and can cause the channel unimpeded. If the muscle or joint is hit erroneously, it can only injure the healthy muscle and cause pain of it. If purge is applied when it should be invigorated or invigoration is applied when it should be purged, it will aggravate the disease. If the tendon is hit erroneously, the tendon will become flaccid, and the evil energy will not be excreted, and, as a result, the evil energy will be contending with the healthy energy. As the healthy energy has not been removed, it will return inside to cause disease. This is due to the careless applying of the needle and taking the agreeable energy as the adverse one.”
